Sound.com opens online rental store

INDIA: Rental company Sound.com has opened the first online rental store in India. The website – online-sound.com – will stock ‘most of the equipment needed by event companies at competent and lesser rates’. Additionally, it also plans to expand its rental catalogue to include musical instruments.
‘The future is doing business on digital networks and the time has been right for us,’ explained Warren D’souza, managing director of Sound.com. ‘We had a sizeably good catalogue to display and since we have a headstart in this, the store can keep evolving. Also, the idea was to become organised in a manner that we can grow. It is not about having a big sound system if you can’t even do five shows properly. If we can’t automate, let our clients do so. But, anyone who signs up is vetted and no one is given a login ID easily.’
The store currently features audio equipment, backline, DJ gear, studio equipment, location sound, intercom systems and packaged systems made available for consumers. Booking equipment on the site is reported to make the rental cost cheaper by 15 per cent.
The move to begin stocking musical instruments, however, comes from the aim to provide organisers with a one-stop-shop for event equipment.
‘The whole idea of doing this was to make the industry understand that there are many products available which can be used for a better sound, and we have what every major artist played on in backline history,’ added Mr D’souza.
