Soundcraft Si1 for Australias Scene Change

AUSTRALIA: Audiovisual rental specialist Scene Change has acquired a Soundcraft Si1 digital console following a long consultation process in which the company’s entire senior crew tested prospective new desks, ultimately settling on the Si1.

Founded in 2006, Scene Change has rapidly grown to become a major force in Australia’s domestic rentals sector – earlier this year the company was listed at number 48 on the BRW Fast Starters list, which ranks the fastest-growing start-ups in the country. It attributes part of its success to ‘purchasing the best equipment available’. As part of this strategy, all members of the senior crew participate in deciding which products to purchase.

‘When you want to attract the best crew in a tight labour market, you need to give them the best tools to work with, so they feel good about the quality of show they’re delivering,’ explained Scene Change’s Sydney director Vicken Hekimian. ‘The quality of the equipment motivates the crew to work harder to make our clients happy, which is really important when you’re the underdog.’

The company’s reasons for selecting the Si1 reportedly included the quality of the console’s onboard processing and effects. ‘There’s no questioning the quality of the onboard gear on the Si1,’ added Mr Hekimian. ‘BSS processing, dbx equalisation and Lexicon effects are all proven products that we know and trust. It passed all the tests we could throw at it.’

He concluded: ‘Unlike some of the other desks we looked at, the Si1 integrates really well with the analogue world. The whole input and output structure is really well thought out. It also looks really cool.’
