Stagetec Asia equips Star RFMs new broadcasting studios

MALAYSIA: Stagetec Asia has provided broadcasting group Star RFM and SuriaFM’s new facility at the Tropicana City Office Tower (located in Petaling Jaya) with a new broadcast solution for all three of its live channels. The project included the design, supply, installation, commissioning and complete audio integration of all studios to the audio router in the master control room.

The Stagetec team reportedly often worked throughout the night to equip all 19 studios and the master control room. The complete audio integration included the installation of on-air digital audio mixing consoles, voice over mixers, and an emergency playout system. The team ensured the facilities were not interrupted during the installation process, which took approximately two months.

Included within the project were five on-air studios and two standby studios, which were each equipped with 16 fader 52/SX mixing consoles from DHD. Meanwhile, a DHD 4200D audio router was installed into the master control room. The Intelligent Emergency Playout system (IEPS) installed is comprised of Stagetec’s Nexus and Zenon Media’s playout automation software to ensure an off-air situation never occurs. Star RFM uses its existing radio automation system in its new facility.

Stagetec Asia’s managing director David Chan described himself as ‘very pleased’ with his project team. ‘The whole project was fast paced but we managed to complete it in time and successfully switchover from the old facility to the new studios without a glitch. The overall system design focuses on redundancies and backups to ensure the radio stations run seamlessly without problems,’ Mr Chan explained.

He added that all of the operators and DJs are ‘happy’ with the new DHD mixers, adding that they ‘exceed their standard operation requirements whilst providing good audio quality.’

Star RFM Sdn Bhd (which manages the radio channels 988FM and RedFM), and SuriaFM are subsidiaries of the Star Publications (M) Bhd. Both stations broadcast in Chinese, English and Malay.
