Studer OnAir 2500 to serve Thai shopping channel

THAILAND: A Studer OnAir 2500 console has been commissioned for a newly launching 24-hour shopping channel in Thailand, operated by expanding Korean broadcaster CJ O Shopping Co. The desk was originally specified in South Korea and supplied by 101 Technology Co, part of the Mahajak Group.

The new channel is the result of a joint agreement between CJ O Shopping, a subsidiary of the CJ Group, Korea's biggest food ingredients manufacturer, and GMM Grammy, one of the largest entertainment and media groups in Thailand. It will broadcast over GMM satellite television to approximately 12 million households across South East Asia from a facility in Bangkok. The Korean investors were reportedly instrumental in the choice of console.

‘Evidence of Studer reliability can be seen in the Vista 5 that we installed for CH-7,’ explained 101 Technology Co’s Wiboon Lertkultanon. ‘It has been working 24/7 without failure for the past four years, while the Studer 928 analogue desk which it replaced ran for almost 20 years without a problem. With the OnAir 2500, the price was competitive and our team is on hand to support it.’

The console’s basic I/O is configured with six wireless mics, a CD player, a hard disk player and a telephone hybrid plus specially commissioned sound effects. During its installation, 101 Technology’s chief engineer, Banjongsak Wonggawee, assisted the broadcaster in configuring the GPIO to control a number of players and LED signs, whilst the company also handled operator training.

The channel is the fifth of its kind launched outside of South Korea following similar projects in China, India, Japan and Vietnam.
