Suntec Singapore installs customisable Martin LED ceiling

SINGAPORE: As part of a massive renovation project, an extensive installation of Martin Professional VC-Dot 1 miniature LEDs has been carried out at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, located in the central business district of Singapore. The project was undertaken by lighting designer Bo Steiber.

Known as one of the country’s leading venues for meetings, trade shows, and lectures, the exhibition centre is also famous for housing the world’s largest HD video wall. As part of the fourth floor renovation, Suntec was looking to change the way attendees interacted with the environment to increase their perception of events and venues. Space however was a huge concern.

‘To us, there was one particularly relevant question to bear in mind,’ explained Arun Madhok, CEO of Suntec Singapore. ‘How can we design a space flexible enough to host an exhibition today, a wedding banquet tomorrow and a conference the next day?’

In addition to this, the company also takes great pride in using cutting-edge technology to lower its carbon footprint. Once lighting designer Bo Steiber was brought on-board the project took a different turn, and both of these consideration were met with the VC-Dot 1s.

The renovation incorporated the venue’s ceiling into the design to allow it to quickly alter an event space or set a different mood. The LED fixtures are centrally programmed and controlled, ensuring no-one needs to enter the ceiling space. With the new system in place, Suntec’s client now also has the possibly of customising the space by adding logos, messages, and graphics.

‘Our new system costs less to operate than our previous system. We save costs on power and cooling as well as the drastic decrease in breakdowns and necessary repairs,’ added Mr Madhok. ‘The installation is one of our key selling points and has definitely strengthened our brand as a venue.’
