SOUTH KOREA: Seoul-based digital platform services company SK Planet and Dolby Laboratories have announced that as of March 2013, movies from SK Planet’s T store will stream and download with Dolby Digital Plus high-definition audio. This is reported to be the world’s first video on demand (VOD) service from a mobile operator to deliver Dolby Digital Plus.

‘Consumers want the best entertainment experience possible wherever they go, and sound is an integral part of that,’ said Kihyun Jung, chief product officer, SK Planet. ‘Dolby has a long history of creating the best audio experiences for the cinema and the living room, and now we’re collaborating to bring that great sound experience to mobile consumers in Korea. HD content offerings with super audio quality will enable us to provide premium services. By making an aggressive investment like this, we expect to enhance leadership of T store, hoppin and MelOn in the content market and video service industry.’
‘Great sound is important to great entertainment,’ concurred John Couling, senior vice president, E-Media, Dolby Laboratories. ‘With Dolby Digital Plus audio, SK Planet’s T store movies will sound exactly as the film director or sound designer intended. We are excited to work with a market leader like SK Planet, which is committed to advancing the best sound experiences for mobile.’
