TrueVisions adds to Wohler inventory

THAILAND: Bangkok-based cable and satellite television operator TrueVisions recently purchased a Wohler AMP2-E16V-3G modular 16-channel Dolby audio/video workstation. The sale was made through Wohler’s local dealer, Advanced Digital Tech Group.

The broadcaster has invested in equipment from the brand since 2008, and Vichai Sernvongsat, (chief technical officer at TrueVisions) described the workstation as ‘a clear choice for a number of reasons – including its modularity, its ability to monitor multiple formats in one unit, and its capacity to expand easily as more services are required’.

The unit has been put to use within monitoring stations throughout the transmission chain and in the building’s master control room. The AMP2’s modular card-based design has been beneficial for the premises, as Mr Sernvongsat describes: ‘It allows for fast and efficient hardware configuration and ease of service, and our engineers can add or remove cards from the frame as needed, as the units are easily modified in the field. As a result, our entire facility can use the same hardware platform with complete interoperability, despite the different demands of specific environments.’

Additionally, the integration of various I/O card formats has reduced the need for external processing and format conversion, which has helped to cut overall cost and space requirements at the facility.

‘As the AMP2 motherboard is equipped with a number of card slots that can be fitted with the appropriate audio/video I/O cards, we are able realise tremendous short and long-term advantages over traditional products in terms of flexibility and cost-efficiency,’ he enthused. ‘We get the functionality that we need now, and as new audio/video formats emerge, we’ll be able to adapt the unit through the simple addition of a new card rather than replace the entire workstation.’

Mr Sernvongsat has also found the AMP2’s ability to route signals from one input card to an output card to be ‘very beneficial’. The system’s monitoring functions are fully compatible with ATSC and EBU standards and metadata monitoring for Dolby/SMPTE 2020, which are capabilities that allow the staff to integrate monitoring more tightly into the broadcast workflow.

‘As our operations continue to grow, the ongoing addition of features will allow these Wohler products to perform an even wider range of monitoring and processing applications,’ Mr Sernvongsat explained. ‘Wohler offers local support throughout its local presence in Asia and a network of distributors adds value to our investment and gives use confidence in their ongoing utility,’ he concluded.
