Tsinghua University celebrates centenary with Harman

CHINA: A range of Harman equipment was recently used to help mark the 100th anniversary of Tsinghua University, which is often ranked as either the number one or two educational facility within the country. The Harman system was used for a celebratory event attended by Chinese president Hu Jintao.

Founded in 1911 and colloquially known in Chinese as Qinghua, Tsinghua is one of just nine centres of education to occupy the esteemed C9 League of leading universities within China. It is also home to the Great Hall of the People, which hosted the centennial celebration on April 24th.

An impressive 11,000 spectators were in attendance, watching 2,000 performers participate in an event that was divided into four sections themed ‘water’ (covering the origins of the university), ‘wood’ (which focused on Tsinghua’s development over 100 years), ‘clear’ (symbolising the spirit of Tsinghua) and ‘China’.

A total of 48 JBL VT4889 enclosures were deployed to form the main reinforcement system for the event, with 24 VT4880A subwoofers adding low-end support. A further 16 4887 loudspeakers were used as near-fills, while on-stage sound was via 16 PRX 512M boxes. Ninety Crown IT 9000 power amplifiers were used to drive the system with four BSS BLU80s used for signal processing. Two Soundcraft Vi6 consoles were used for mixing.
