Van Damme debuts in China

CHINA: Langdale Technical Consulting has completed an installation at The Shanghai Synergy Culture & Entertainment Group’s (SSCEG) music recording studio. With help from lighting and sound designer, David Perry, the project saw the studio outfitted with a selection of audio equipment for the control room, and for the first time the country, a installed cable infrastructure formed exclusively from Van Damme Cables.
The SSCEG is China’s largest music industry media group. Located at the company’s headquarters, its flagship studio was originally built in 1985, and was in desperate need of refurbishment. New equipment in the control room consisted of an SSL Duality console, Pro Tools, and additional outboard gear. But as replacing an aging cable infrastructure can often be one of the most involved aspects of a project such as this, the decision to use Van Damme cables by Langdale apparently reflected its historical use in Abbey Road Studios.
‘When I was asked to carry out the installation I explained that one thing I don't compromise on is the cabling,’ explained Langdale’s Bill Ward. ‘If you install a duff piece of outboard it's easy to plug in another. If the cable is not first class it can mean ripping half the studio out to replace it. For that reason I always choose Van Damme cables.’
Due to the scope of the cable installation, difficulties with obtaining missing parts meant that everything had to be pre-calculated and part assembled so as to arrive in Shanghai as a complete kit.
‘Having something missing didn't bear thinking about but thankfully our calculations were spot on and nothing was missing,’ said Mr Ward.
