Vikas Corporation equips Mediterranean restaurant

INDIA: Vikas Corporation has been selected by architect Phirosa Neterwala (of Mumbai-based architecture firm Neterwala and Aibara) to provide the entire sound system for a new restaurant named Amadeus. Situated at NCPA Nariman Point, Mumbai, the Mediterranean-style restaurant boasts a bar, a private dining room, an antique Osler chandelier and a performance space.
The restaurant’s sound system is split into two separate sections: one for background music, and one for live sound. Amadeus owner Farrokh Khambata and Mr Neterwala specified that the background system had to be able to handle everyday background music, whilst not disrupting to the NCPA performances.
Reacting to these specifications, Vikas Corporation chose B&W CCM 616 in-ceiling speakers and an Onkyo TX 8555 stereo receiver to handle the background music.
The live sound, however, has a more specific set of considerations to bear in mind. The owner and architect specified that the system had to be suitable for any live bands, DJs, and private parties, but should not spill over into the restaurant area, as this would disturb the patrons in the seating area of the restaurant. Aesthetics were another important factor for the owner, and the team had to ensure the system would not distract from the restaurant’s interior.
‘It was challenging project for us due to the fact we had to satisfy the patrons whilst ensuring there was no over spill,’ said Vikas Corporation’s Vikas Sadarangani. ‘We has to ensure sound levels were satisfactory but make sure it did not make the patrons want to leave the restaurant.’
With his in mind, for the DJ equipment Vikas Corporation selected a Numark M4 three channel DJ mixer and Denon 4500 dual CD player.
For the live sound section of the system, Vikas Corporation selected Mackie equipment in the form of a 1642 VLZ3 mixer, a HD1521 as front of house speaker and Mackie HD1801 subwoofers. A DBX Driverack 260 PA control system was used as crossover controller, whilst a Lexicon MX400 serves as the venue’s effects processor. DJ monitors comprise JBL EON 510s, and a number of Behringer DI boxes now reside in the restaurant. Amadeus also features mics from Audio-Technica, and mic stands from K & M.
‘The background music is perfect and I am very satisfied with the sound system,’ said Mr Khambata. ‘The live sound system is rocking the place on live music nights, and the DJ is extremely happy with his setup on DJ nights.’
