Vision One brings uniform coverage to KBank Siam-Pic-Genesha

THAILAND: A newly opened 1,044-seat state-of-the-art theatre in Bangkok’s Siam Square One Building is being powered by an L-Acoustics Kiva sound system. The new audio system was chosen following demonstrations with five competing brands. A committee of composers, art directors and board members from building owner and Thai media company, Workpoint Entertainment Public Company Ltd, evaluated various types of music from male and female vocal performances to traditional Thai instrumentals, as well as rock and pop. Bangkok-based Vision One was enlisted as design and installation contractor for the theatre’s technical systems, with Tanapat ‘Tony’ Mongkolkosol, Frank Reuvekamp, Faz Zalleh and Hermann bin Suparman designing, overseeing and commissioning the systems.
Officially named the KBank Siam-Pic-Genesha Center of Performing Arts, the main theatre is joined by a 200-seat Playhouse and 40-seat studio theatre. The largest theatre is used to host theatrical productions, musicals, live music, ballet, corporate events and talks.
‘Due to the physical layout of the theatre, which features around 700 seats in the stalls and another 300 on the balcony, we needed to satisfy the requirement of 95dB ±3dB loudness over the entire seating area,’ explained Mr Mongkolkosol. ‘We chose Kiva because it delivers the required SPL and the exceptional vocal clarity specified by the theatre designers.’
The audio system powering the theatre comprises left/right hangs of nine Kiva and two flown SB15m subs each, in addition to a centre cluster of eight Kiva and four groundstacked SB18i subwoofers. Five 8XTi were installed as frontfills, five more 8XTi and 12XTi as under balcony/VIP box delays and a further five 8XTi as secondary under balcony delays.
‘Because the main proscenium system is flown quite high, we installed the frontfills to cover the front four rows and the delays to fill beneath the balcony. This achieved a uniform and seamless 95dB at all seats,’ furthered Mr Mongkolkoso. ‘This is a very high quality venue and the owners are completely happy with the coverage, levels and audio quality that the L-Acoustics system delivers.’
