VKLCC ExxonMobil gets TOA voice alarm system

MALAYSIA: TOA Electronics Malaysia (TEM) recently completed a project that saw the company propose a TOA SX-2000 voice alarm system, complete with fire alarm system, voice evacuation and decentralised CobraNet technology for the 33-storey KLCC ExxonMobil tower in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
The replacement system had to be able to offer a much-improved sound quality during emergency broadcasts, and had to be able to meet all site conditions and phrase evacuation sequences whilst working with the building’s existing speakers and strobe lights. TEM successfully completed the overall upgrade project within a span of five months.
‘The SX-2000 is well-suited for airports and railway stations, factories, shopping malls and large offices,’ said Joe Tan, project manager, TOA Electronics Malaysia Sdn Bhd. ‘It is suitable for the KLCC ExxonMobil as its tower consists of a 33-storey building. Also, it can interface with the local Siemens fire alarm system, it performs complicated phase evacuation requirements and includes pre-recorded messages.’
According to Mr Tan, challenges the team faced included working around the existing speakers, strobe lights and wiring that had been in place for 15 years, and the tight space in which to install the fire alarm and voice alarm system. ‘The installation works started after office hours and finished at midnight, and we had to adhere to various strict safety regulations during site works,’ he elaborated. ‘We also had to retain the physical wiring for future expansion and complete regular maintenance activities.
‘The SX-2000 has enhanced the clarity of paging announcements for all areas inside the building,’ he concluded. ‘The client is satisfied with the new system as it is compliant with their requirements, is clear and loud enough for announcements, and it is user friendly and easy to operate.’
