KOREA: As athletes and spectators of the 19th Asian Games descended on Incheon recently, L-S-B Broadcast Technologies took responsibility for a ‘crucial part’ of the broadcast infrastructure. Through the use of its Virtual Studio Manager equipment functioning as the main control system in several OB Vans as well as in the International Broadcast Centre, more than a billion people are reported to have witnessed events via television and other media.
A total of nine VSM systems were deployed in the IBC and OB Vans of national broadcasters KBS, MBC, and EBS, the biggest of which was situated in the IBC as the main control system with access to the routers. The system was also utilised for control and monitoring of modular equipment in addition to scheduling of the 45 distribution channels for the whole IBC facility. Throughout production of the games, 50 VSM hardware panels and 10 software panel GUIs were deployed inside the IBC.
Information from the VSM GUIs was displayed on large monitors in the CDT (Contribution-Distribution-Transmission) room, the most important control room within the IBC facility. It was used for gathering, quality control and distribution of all signals to transmission lines and other users.
VSM was also implemented in the KBS production facility, also housed within the IBC. Here it was responsible for audiovisual router control, tally management and modular control and monitoring. A total of 36 VSM hardware panels plus additional software panels were used.
