Wanda Cinema Line debuts Dolby Cinema

CHINA: The Wanda Cinema Line theatres in Dalian, Changchun, Chongqing and Jinan are the first to be installed with Dolby Cinema. This follows the announcement earlier in the year that the cinema chain had agreed to open 100 Dolby Cinema locations throughout China during the next five years.

‘Wanda Cinema Line, as a leader and advocate of the latest cinema technologies in Asia is committed to providing premium movie going experiences and services to our audiences,’ explained Wanda Cinema Line president, John Zeng. ‘Dolby Cinema is a complete experience. We are glad that, as the largest exhibitor in Asia, we can be the first to bring this experience to audiences.’

Combining Dolby Vision laser projection with the Dolby Atmos speaker system, Dolby Cinema was debuted in the country by Wanda Cinemas at its Dalian location in Kaide Heping Square. Dolby Atmos is designed to move sound around the auditorium, completely immersing the audience in the audio experience.

Dolby Vision was developed in collaboration with Christie to produce a high dynamic range and enhanced colour, giving audiences more detailed visuals using state-of-the-art image processing and optics. All 100 Wanda Cinemas branches will be installed with Christie RGB laser projectors to complement Dolby Vision, the first five having already been equipped accordingly.

‘With powerful image, sound technologies and unique design, Dolby Cinema is one of the best places to see a movie,’ said senior vice president of Cinema Business Group, Dolby Laboratories, Doug Darrow. ‘We look forward to captivating audiences in China who seek the very best quality in entertainment and to bringing Dolby Cinema to more cities with Wanda Cinema Line.’

The first Dolby Cinema release in China was Warcraft, produced by Legendary and Universal Pictures. ‘Warcraft is a prime example of the power and sophistication of Dolby Cinema,’ noted CEO at Legendary East, Peter Loehr. ‘Dolby Cinema gives artists the ability to fully capture and share their vision with audiences.’

‘Wanda is not only collaborating with Dolby on the exhibition side, but also looks forward to more collaborations in movie production, so as to provide audiences with an unprecedented experience combining premium movie content with leading technologies in sight and sound,’ added Mr Zeng.
