SINGAPORE: A recent concert at Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic saw two Yamaha M7CL digital consoles used for front of house and monitor mixing. Named the Ignite! Music Festival 2012, the two-day event saw an array of bands take to the stage celebrating the Polytechnic’s commitment to music education.
Republic Polytechnic has six schools and two centres offering 39 courses including Technology for the Arts, Sports, and Health & Leisure. It is described as ‘striving for excellence’ whilst promoting ‘entrepreneurial learning in an environment that develops problem-solving skills and a lifelong learning attitude’.
The Ignite! Music Festival is an annual event which this year boasted performances by alumni bands from the Polytechnic such as Bear Culture and Natalie’s Plight, plus performances from current students including Re-plug and Jammerz Arena. Other artists included YouthWreck, The Great Spy Experiment and Yamaha Asian Beats 2011 champions Catalogue V.
The audio team for 2012 was led by Mark Spencer, head audio engineer of The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC), who chose a Yamaha M7CL-48 V3 for monitors alongside an M7CL-48ES for FOH. A total of six SB168-ES Stageboxes were also deployed.
Crucially, the M7CL-48 V3 was equipped with one MY16-ES64 and two MY16-EX Ethersound cards to enable 48 inputs and 24 outputs through the stageboxes via Ethernet cable. Each of the mixers was connected to three Yamaha SB168-ES Stageboxes. Additionally, the M7CL-48ES was loaded with Waves SoundGrid Server using two WSG-Y16 cards, thereby enabling the use of MultiRack featuring the SoundGrid Pro bundle. A total of 32 tracks were recorded to a Mac running Steinberg Nuendo 5 connected via Ethernet to the Waves SoundGrid network.
The newly acquired M7CL-48ES, Wave SoundGrid and Nuendo 5 systems were supplied through System Integrator Pave System Pte Ltd.
