Yamaha Corporation joins the OCA Alliance

WORLD: Yamaha Corporation has become the ninth member to join the OCA Alliance. Approached to join by Bosch, the initiator of the OCA Alliance, Yamaha will work with the rest of the members to discuss how to overcome the challenge of interoperability in the professional audio market.

Yamaha joins existing members Bosch Communications Systems, d&b audiotechnik GmbH, Duran Audio, Loud Technologies Inc, Media Technology Systems, PreSonus, Salzbrenner Stagetec Mediagroup and TC Group.

‘We are glad to now be able to join this alliance, which we were in close communications with from the very beginning,’ said Terry Holton, senior manager at Yamaha’s London R&D centre.

The OCA Alliance members report that the goal is to create an open public standard for professional media network systems, stressing that the concept is not intended to replace evolving standards such as AVB. Instead, it is intended to complement these standards by providing a ‘reliable and rich’ system control environment.

The OCA Alliance is currently in phase one of the standardisation process, involving the completion of technical documents and the transferring of results to an accredited public standards organisation. This is restricted to full members of the OCA. However, OCA Alliance members are keen to state that companies interested in joining as observers are welcome, and will have the opportunity to become full active members in the second phase of the standardisation process.

Yamaha has been involved with the alliance since its formation in June 2011, reporting that its membership has been pending due to internal proceedings.
