Yamaha installed at Iona Performing Arts Centre

AUSTRALIA: Brisbane’s Iona Performing Arts Centre’s 500-capacity auditorium has benefitted from a recent Yamaha series speaker installation. The auditorium, which features an orchestra pit, is used for musical and theatrical performances, as well as a variety of social functions.

Tasked with replacing the venues previous PA system was IPAC’s production technician Craig Dye. ‘We really needed a system in here that could cope with everything; from speech through to a rock show,’ he explained.

Using a Yamaha Sound System Simulator (or YS3 - as it is otherwise known), Mr Dye established the auditorium’s precise audio requirements and approached Brisbane Sound Group and Yamaha Commercial Audio to provide the system. ‘I used YS3 so I could see that I was going to get the coverage in the room that I wanted, and to check it would fit into the budget,’ he furthered.

Dan Fittell of Brisbane Sound Group assisted Mr Dye in integrating a full Yamaha system into the venue, which comprises a front of house speaker system made up of two IF2115/95 installation series speakers as left/right, an IF2112/64 install speaker as centre, two IF2112/95s as delays, and two IS1118 subs. These are powered by a range of Yamaha PC-N and Tn series amps.  A Yamaha DME24-N open architecture DSP unit handles processing, and mixing duties are taken care of by a Yamaha 01V96VCM digital mixer.

Mr Dye reports that he has plans to expand the venue’s capabilities with a large projector and the ability to change from lecture to movie mode at the push of a button, adding that there are already a pair of Yamaha A12 passive speakers on hand to cover rear speaker duties in 5.1 mode. ‘That’s why we went with the DME24-N,’ he explained. ‘It’s worth having – especially with the way digital media is going.’

‘This PA has got us covered now,’ he added. ‘I’m really happy with what we’re hearing – and so is the boss.’
