21dB and Eltek tackle Al-Liquaa Theatre

LEBANON: The Rabweh-based Al-Liquaa Theatre has benefitted from a recent sound reinforcement installation, courtesy of Eltek. 21dB provided the acoustic treatment for the project, which took a total of 10 days to complete.

The client requested a solution that would compliment the 500-capacity theatre’s already existing interior. With this in mind, a total of 71 white Poly Fuser QR acoustic panels and 39 white Flexi Wood A50 panels from Vicoustic were installed, as well as 40 Flexi Waves from 21dB, also in white.

Meanwhile, a total of eight Martin Audio Omniline micro-line array loudspeakers were installed into the theatre, as well as two ASF 20022 wall brackets, a DX1.5 digital loudspeaker management system, and four AQ 210 sub bass enclosures. A Klark Teknik SQ1G two-channel graphic equaliser was also selected for the venue, as well as six SL1800 stereo power amplifiers from Dynacord.

‘There were some challenges during the execution of the project,’ explained 21dB’s managing director Fouad Bechwati. ‘The major one being the difficulty in aligning the ceiling absorbers and reflectors, as well as the extreme attention to detail required to fall in-line with the quality of interior. Also, the installation was done after the interior of the theatre was finished, so a lot of care had to be taken in keeping the work area tidy.’

Commenting on the theatre’s acoustic treatment, Mr Bechwati continued: ‘A mixture of absorbers, diffusers and reflectors were necessary in order to improve speech intelligibility, as well as to even out the RT response and music clarity. The line array system by Martin Audio was chosen to focus sound energy in specific areas.’

The client is said to be ‘very pleased’ with both the acoustic improvement and the aesthetic finish achieved.
