Academy of Sound Engineering hosts Cultureclash concert

SOUTH AFRICA: Students from the Academy of Sound Engineering recently organised and hosted the now annual Cultureclash concert, which was held in Midrand.

The aim of the festival was to allow the students to put on an outdoor event, thereby assisting them in their studies by providing practical access to a real-world concert environment.

An EAW 760 large format line array powered by Lab.gruppen amplifiers provided support for the main stage to support the 28 live bands and 19 DJs that performed at the event.

Meanwhile, a Yamaha M7 ran the monitors whilst an Avid Venue profile console was chosen to run front of house. The students also completed a full multitrack recording of the festival with a feed from FOH into a Pro Tools 9 HD 3 mobile rack.

‘The event was fabulously successful, and Cultureclash has grown into a major event,’ said George Hattingh, head of marketing at Academy of Sound Engineering. ‘What is most amazing about this event is that it was completely conceived, developed, managed, set up, produced (technically), filmed and audio mixed by students from the Academy of Sound Engineering.

‘We are very proud of them, and this production just proves how successful their training at the Academy has been. No other college can claim this level of practical production experience by students,’ he said proudly.
