QATAR: The latest addition to Al Kass’ fleet of outside broadcast vehicles is OB-10, a 31-camera truck which was designed, built and integrated by German systems integrator, Broadcast Solutions. With room for 29 crew, OB-10 is the largest addition to the sports broadcaster’s fleet.
‘This project is the first cooperation between Al Kass and Broadcast Solutions,’ noted Samer Younes, technical advisor at Al Kass. ‘We were looking for companies that reach our demands for high-quality and specialised OB vans and who work as a full-service provider – we found this here at Broadcast Solutions. The company has a more advanced approach to resources and the number of cameras to include directly in the OB. Broadcast Solutions helped us to reach our design goals for this OB van, which is the biggest one in the Middle East, and we are looking forward to many big productions with this OB van.’
The van itself can draw on an extensive inventory of equipment. On the audio side it features a Lawo mc2 56 MKII mixer with 48 faders and a Lawo Nova audio matrix. Intercom is taken care of by a Riedel Artist 128 while there is control and tally from VSM.
The visual portion of the project calls on 29 Ikegami cameras plus a pair of Antelope high-speed units. Video switching is via a Kayenne 4M/E, 80 input/48 output mixer from Grass Valley while the manufacturer’s 288x450(576), 3G NVision is used for routing. Additionally, Grass Valley is responsible for the 240 multiviewer screens while 68 Sony monitors are also called into action. Finally, OB-10 features further equipment from Snell, EVS and HP.
