Apart covers Plaka

SOUTH AFRICA: Johannesburg’s new Greek restaurant, Plaka, has been fitted out with a full audio system from Apart. The system was supplied by local distributor iLed.

The restaurant’s design features a wealth of Apart CM20T ceiling speakers for BGM powered by the manufacturer’s PA2240BP amp. But as the atmosphere builds during the evening, a pair of Mask 8 speakers powered via a Champ 2 are also put to use.

‘You need to put in quality equipment, and with Apart speakers you know what you’re getting,’ said iLed’s Justin Mamulis. ‘We’ve used the ceiling speakers throughout for distributed audio and they sound really great. They turn the Mask 8s up to give it a bit of a Greek vibe. Every Greek restaurant starts off chilled then builds up,’ he explained.

Zone 4 four in four out preamplifiers run each of the different zones. ‘We are running multiple controllers in each zone so the staff can change the volume from different places instead of running to a central point,’ explained Mr Mamulis.

It was a quick project, with the planning stage to completion taking around three months. Mr Mamulis puts this down in part to the use of Ease software during the design. ‘With the Ease diagrams and the information we get from Apart, we know exactly what we’re getting from the speakers. We are able to place them off the plan. So you come in here and it just works, that’s the beauty of Ease.’
