Asimetrik completes Ice Palace project

TURKMENISTAN: Asimetrik has completed a project at the recently opened Gıskı Oyunlar Sport Toplumı winter sports complex in Turkmenistan. Known as the Ice Palace, the complex includes a 10,000 seat arena a training rink, seminar hall, press centre and a sports college with dormitories all located in the same campus.

The main rink was principally designed for ice hockey and figure skating but without the ice, and it also doubles as a basketball and volleyball arena, and even as a concert hall.

Asimetrik designed and modeled the main sound system. It consists of 14 RCF H1315 speakers directed to the tiers and four H1312 directed towards the rink. The system is driven on QSC’s PowerLight3 amplifiers and Q-Sys enables the control and monitoring of the entire system.

Q-Sys also manages the President’s area. Protected with thick glass and physically isolated from the venue, it has its own sound system with local volume controls which can be overridden by the main control room.

At the heart of the system is an Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing console, enabling the normal sports hall operation and also the functionality of a concert system.

For the broadcast side, a 36-camera infrastructure has been built in the Ice Palace with 16 locations available. Added to this is an OB van connection panel in the parking lot.

The system has already been put to the test with an opening ceremony with figure skating and ice dancing shows, followed by a three-day ice hockey tournament.
