ETHIOPIA: Dubai-based Auvidis Middle East has moved into Africa with a successful P-Square concert in Addis Ababa. The company was responsible for the overall management of P-Square’s performance and a technical team from Belgium travelled to cover the event.
The concert at the Millennium Hall was to help celebrate the Ethiopian New Year and the 50th anniversary of the African Union. A crowd of 12,000 attended the show which also saw performances from Jah Lude and Hamelmal Abate.
The technical team faced some challenges to fix the venue’s sound and lighting systems which ‘showed some lack of maintenance’, but the concert reportedly ran smoothly. Front of house was managed by Valerian Pouleur while Joel Rifon took care of the monitor mix.
The front of house system included six EAW 760s and a 761. Power was from Crest amplifiers with Yamaha PM5D used for FOH and monitor mix. With an extremely wide venue, the same configuration of four 760s and one 761 were put to use for out fills. Added to this JBL speakers were used as delays for the VIP mezzanine section.
Lighting designer, Sylvain Van-Den-Bussche handled the Avolites Pearl. The lighting configuration included eight Robe 575 MH-wash, 24 Robe 575 MH-spots, six Martin Professional MAC 700, 19 MAC 2000 wash and 19 MAC 2000 spots.
Eric de Wouters, owner of Auvidis Middle-East FZE was very happy with the overall management and proud of his technical team. ‘From my 25 years experience, that show was a particular challenge, but I can’t wait to repeat it proudly on African soil.’
