Babajim invests in Genelec monitors

TURKEY: Istanbul-based recording and mastering studio, Babajim Studios, has added to its equipment list with a pair of Genelec 8260 monitors. The monitors have been installed in Studio B of the facility and were purchased after a trial period.
Mastering engineer and studio director Pieter Snapper had been a user of Genelec 1037s in his native US, but had not used the manufacturer’s monitors for some time previous to this purchase. He was reportedly persuaded to listen to the new models by Genelec’s local representative.
‘I was a little sceptical, but in the end these new larger models with the concentric mid and low frequency drivers really impressed me in Studio B,’ said Mr Snapper. ‘The mixes translate well, they’re not hyped, they’ve got smooth crossovers throughout and the clients love them. What more can you ask for?’
Mr Snapper believes the new purchase is a good addition to the studio. ‘It expands that room. They sound good in that space and we’re happy with them,’ he explained. ‘We tuned the monitors to the room. I’m always sceptical of these room analysis programmes because to me it’s adding another filter in there and that can’t be good. But Genelec seem to have solved some problems with that and it works. It’s a good solution, and this is coming from a real sceptic.’
