Bose covers Muscat ice rink

OMAN: Pro audio dealer Qariat Al Saada has installed a Bose sound system to cover a new ice rink in Muscat. The project was in its latter stages when the contract was awarded and the dealer was tasked with supplying a sound system that would cover the venue without suspending any cabinets over the ice.
The rink is covered by four Bose 802 Series III loudspeakers which have been wall-mounted near each corner. ‘Bose is the best solution here due to the weather-proofing,’ said Muhammad Hinai, director of Qariat Al Saada. ‘You have a lot of temperature variation in here as well as moisture. During maintenance, the ice is melted and the air conditioning is shut off.’
The biggest challenge for the project came from the reflections generated by the ice. ‘With the cooperation from OHI, the sole distributor for Bose in Oman, and Mr Hitesh Bhimani we could overcome the RT60 issue of the venue. It was huge but we are pleased with the outcome. With the time we had, this was the best job commercially as well as technically. It was the best possible solution,’ said Mr Hinai.
‘We considered this product to be the most suitable,’ he continued. ‘It is full range so you can play music or use it for speech. It gives a good SPL as well, so it covers the area.’
