KENYA: Brähler ICS and Nairobi-based systems integrator AVTech Systems (East Africa) Limited have installed a CDSVAN conferencing at the Kenyan Parliament. Following detailed project talks and a tour of the site, Brähler was contracted to equip the plenary assembly hall of the building with a customised version of its system.
The new conference system installed in Kenya’s parliament reportedly enables the transmission of up to 32 languages. Votes and audience responses can be conducted using the Yes, No, and Abstain keys. PIN-protected ChipCards provide personal identification and not only serve as an overall registration card but also give access authorisation to the hall and enable attendance checking in voting procedures. Each individual unit opens up the possibility of intermediation by enabling floor requests to be made.
Kenya’s parliament opted to have the CDSVAN control panels finished in natural anodised aluminium, decorated with a multicolour print of the parliamentary emblem. A specially developed housing forms the ‘perfect shell for high-grade electronics’ and enables the unit’s seamless integration in the table’s 45-degree design. A special click-fix table locking feature allows the unit to be mounted, and removed when required, without the need for tools.
The installed system serves 350 delegate units. It is additionally fitted with a special chairman unit, featuring a mute all button, and a secretary unit. Information on the ongoing conference inside the parliamentary building can be shown on various IP display consoles. The system is connected to a Hansard system for recording and editing of the speeches of the MPs. The contributions of the parliamentarians can be provided in a very short time to the public in recorded and printed form.
Brähler ICS’s project manager travelled to Nairobi on several occasions to support the on-site team of experts in bringing the project to completion, including start-up and subsequent customer personnel training.
