TURKEY: The recent Cygnus light installation staged in Istanbul called on equipment from Clay Paky. Local production company, Staras Technical Production, purchased the equipment for the conceptual performance through local distributor Asimetrik.

The event was part of the 15th annual Marka International Brand Conference and took place in a 2,400 sq-m space. It called on 46 Clay Paky Sharpy lights and two Atmosphere Hazers to immerse the 2,000-strong audience.

Bi’Şeyler New Media Works, OUCHHH, Panpiper and Staras worked together to explore the constellation Cygnus, the Swan, which is home to Cygnus X-1, a galactic X-ray source believed to be a stellar mass black hole. Technical implementation was programmed by Staras by carefully positioning each individual fixture. The light sources were installed to surround the audience at different heights to allow light flow above their heads, creating a void at the centre which prompted viewers to interpret the notion of a black hole.

‘Sharpy is really a ground-breaking product. Cygnus’ lighting design required a really strong and bright beam light. Thanks to Sharpy’s spectacular brightness, power and light weight, our client, Staras, decided to use Clay Paky Sharpy for the unique and mind-blowing Cygnus lighting performance,’ said Gorkem Celikbilek, VP of Asimetrik. ‘Sharpy allows designers to create fantastic shows.’
