UAE: The start of March has seen Delta Sound supply a pair of very different events in Dubai. The first was the 2016 edition of ChoirFest Middle East, while the second was for a St Patrick’s Day performance from Irish stand-up comedian, Dara O’Briain.
Produced by The Fridge, ChoirFest Middle East is an annual festival celebrating the rich diversity of choral music in the region. It features performances by choirs of all musical traditions and gives educational opportunities to singers and conductors through workshops and masterclasses as well as the Choir of the Year competition. This year the event included a cappella quintet, The Real Group, providing expert courses on vocal techniques and disciplines throughout the week, followed by a headline performance at the celebratory gala concert.
This year, the gala concert was held in the gardens of The Els Club in Dubai Sports City. Delta supplied an L-Acoustics dV-Dosc system with SB218 subs and additional 115XT cabinets. Power was via L-Acoustics’ LA8 amplifiers while control came from the DiGiCo SD5 at FOH. The mic package included a variety of options including Shure Beta 58, Neumann KM184 and Rode NT5s on stands. Finally, a Sennheiser G3 IEM system was also provided.
For the Dara O’Briain event, Delta was approached by Done Events to look after the audio requirements for the DWTC performance. The main PA system was an L-Acoustics Kudo with SB28 subs. Loudspeaker management was through a Meyer Sound 616 with L-Acoustics LA8 amplifiers providing power. The show was mixed on a DiGiCo SD9. The monitor package included L-Acoustics 115HIQs while Clear-Com was called in as the intercom solution.
‘The show went well, Kudo works well in the room,’ said Delta Sound’s Al Woods. ‘The venue is 65m long and really low so it takes a bit of work.’
