Delta covers Senior Convocation ceremony and celebration

QATAR: Delta Sound provided the audio design, equipment and operators for the recent Senior Convocation ceremony and celebration concert at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

The ceremonial graduation day for several Qatar Foundation universities in Doha was organised by QMDI (Qatar MICE Development Institute). After guests and students arrived at the venue, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) greeted them playing in the main reception area. The audience then walked through to the main event, which took place in the conference hall.

The QPO was sub mixed on a DiGiCo SD8, an Avid Profile had a mixture of Sennheiser and Shure radio microphones as well as Shure 412 lectern microphones and video playback feeds. The Profile had overall control of the PA, which comprised of 24 L-Acoustics dV-Dosc and six SB218. A Lexicon PCM96 provided the reverb.

Pictures of the orchestra playing were relayed onto large screens in the conference hall, and Delta supplied Al Jazeera TV with multiple record feed options.

As part of the festivities, One Republic performed the next night as a celebration for the graduates. The concert was held in the same room as the ceremony, and attracted a crowd of around 2,000 people.

Once again, Delta opted for an L-Acoustics rig for the show. The main PA hangs each consisted of eight V-Dosc with three dV-Dosc and 16 SB218s across the front (using 80Hz sub ARC configuration). Both FOH and monitor desks where Avid Profile and Venue respectively, running Waves V8 plugins.

The band used no wedges on stage and relied on Sennheiser G3s with JH Audio to create their desired IEM mix.

‘The ceremony and the concert were well supported and the new venue, The QNCC, functioned well,’ agreed Delta`s lead sound engineers Martyn Ward and David Gibson who were responsible for the event.
