Delta returns to Byblos

LEBANON: For the third successive year Delta Sound was appointed to take care of audio set up for the annual Byblos festival. Promoted by local events company Buzz Productions, and taking place in the wonderful scenery of the Jbeil (Byblos) coastline, The festival offered seven shows during a month this summer.

‘The event arena could not be better placed, the stage, boasting a backdrop of ancient ruins of one of the oldest cities with a vast history. The audience grandstand extended out, precariously, into the ocean overlooking one of the oldest fishing ports in the region with fisherman fishing off the walls of the port. A quaint and picturesque setting which made “going into the office” a different yet memorable experience,’said Delta`s lead engineer Robert Eatock.

The festival programme included performances from Slash, followed by French ballad-singer/pianist Julien Clerc, blues legend B.B.King, German chanteuse and actress Ute Lemper, Iraqi singer (and poet) Kadir Al Sahir as well as Snow Patrol and African musicians Tinariwen. The line up made an eclectic musical experience for the 25,000 festival goers, it also gave Delta Sound an opportunity to embellish the audio setup for each different genre.

Delta supplied a V-Dosc rig with a Kudo center hang and dV-Dosc frontfills. SB218’s made up the ‘arc config’ along the down stage edge of the 28m wide stage. The system was controlled using a combination of XTA DP448 and DP226’s, powered by LA48 and LA8 amplifiers.

Stage sound was a mixture of AA FR12 wedges and Sennheiser G3 IEM supported by a Kudo side fill rig.

A variety of microphones were used comprising of Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Rode, Neumann and DPAs.

Consoles used at FOH and monitors included Avid Profile, Venue, Soundcraft Vi6, Midas Pro9, Legend and Sienna with a Yamaha PM5D as a backup. Delta put to good use its newly acquired 72-channel passive split system with the multitude of digital racks and TV splits. The stage line system was made up of standard 12 pair system.

‘In conclusion, I am happy to be part of this festival and look forward to Delta’s involvement with the festival in the years to come,’summarized Mr Eatock.
