Delta Sound provides audio for Red Bull X-Fighters

As the event was primarily for television, the audio system needed to be as discreet as possible, but needed to be able to effectively cover three grandstands and the track-side audience.  Delta`s engineers used the same speaker configuration as it did the previous year, which comprised stacks of three L-Acoustics V-Dosc line sources pointing towards the grandstand areas, and smaller near field speakers for the standing audience. In total, 24 V-Doscs were deployed, along with four Arcs systems, eight Kudo line sources with 12 Kivas and four SB118 subwoofers. Two L-Acoustics LA-8 amplified controllers and 24 LA48 amps were used to power the system, whilst four XTA DP226 loudspeaker management systems were also utilised.

Providing further sound coverage were eight Meyer Sound MSL-4 long-throw speakers, 20 HK Audio CT 108 passive PA speakers, 12 CT112 cabinets, and eight JF200 with eight LF100 boxes from EAW. These were powered by Lab.gruppen FP1000Q power amplifiers and a Delta Sound custom TX amplifier.

Signal distribution was completed with three DiGiCo stage racks placed in the central area and linked back to a DiGiCo SD8 console. This gave Delta Sound the ability to patch inputs or outputs in any area without having to add in excessive signal runs.

DJ MadJam used Pioneer CDJ-2000 decks that were networked into a laptop for easy and rapid track selection. A Pioneer DLM800 digital mixer was also utilised. The radio mic systems were split into two sites, with Shure UR4D units selected for use in the FOH tower while U4D systems were placed by the track to allow Delta Sound to cover the areas behind the jumps. Meanwhile, Sennheiser IEM systems for the MC’s and performers were also placed at the FOH position, allowing full coverage of the site.
