Done calls on Delta for Jack Dee

UAE: Delta Sound was called in to supply the audio equipment for the recent Jack Dee Live stand-up show in Dubai. The event took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre and was promoted by Done Events.
‘These types of show are often reinforced by a distributed system, small main PA and multiple delay loudspeakers,’ said Delta’s director of engineering, Al Woods. ‘On this occasion we opted to try a main hang of K2 with a flown side hang of Kara and the amazing L-Acoustics 5XT boxes (eight in total) as front fills. It’s only one bloke and a SM58 so it’s got to cover everywhere.
‘The throw was just under 50m and the K2 nailed it beautifully,’ continued Mr Woods. ‘The roof in the Trade Centre is particularly low especially in Hall 1, so we opted to rig from the upper nodes in the roof. This meant that the PA could be flown to a height where it was easier to create even coverage in the room.’
One of the main challenges was coping with the comedian’s mic technique. ‘Jack Dee has a very ad hoc mic technique. Often he holds it below his chest so at times it was tricky to mix but the K2, Kara and 5XTs held it together really well. It sounded full and very coherent everywhere,’ concluded Mr Woods.
