UAE: Event promoter Flash Entertainment LLC contracted Eclipse Staging LLC to provide the A/V gear for a recent Laidback Luke gig held at the Flash Forum Yas Island venue in Abu Dhabi. Delta Sound supported Eclipse with the audio equipment.
Eclipse provided full A/V support including rigging, lighting, video and audio, and was supported by Delta Sound engineers Liam McGrath and Alaister Woods. The three-day setup comprised half a day of pre-rigging, followed by a day of lighting and video and a day for programming and tidying up.
L-Acoustics made up the main PA, comprising 16 V-Dosc loudspeakers, 10 dV-Dosc units and 18 SB218 sub woofers. Also in use were two Mackie SRM450 powered speakers. DiGiCo SD9 and D-Rack consoles were in use, along with control from three XTA DP448s, two Avalon VT737 valve pre amp/compressors, a Denon DNC640 CD player and two Hive PC line balancing units.
Racked amps comprised one LA8 and six Pad 4 LA48 amps from L-Acoustics, whilst gear from Clear-Com and beyerdynamic made up the comms equipment. Seven Pioneer mixers were utilised for backline support, whilst additional equipment came from Delta, Kelsey and Netgear.
‘The PA system was designed taking into account the venue layout, and we used soundvision to work out exactly what we needed to cover the audience area,’ explained Delta Sound’s Liam McGrath. ‘The SD9 was used because of its ease of setup and its transparent signal path.’
Discussing the challenges presented during the project, Mr McGrath said: ‘the only challenge was the room itself. Dome structures are always quite problematic with regards to audio, but the PA configuration covered everything perfectly. DJ events are always a challenge due to high levels, but the system operated well within its limits. The crowd loved it, the levels were very controlled, and the client was very happy,’ he concluded.
An Eclipse representative agreed, commenting that the event ran ‘very smoothly with a great overall result’.
