Eclipse and Delta use new gear for Lady Gaga

UAE: Dubai-based rental houses, Eclipse Staging Services and Delta Sound, both unveiled new equipment as Lady Gaga made her Middle East debut in Dubai. Eclipse’s new Vari-Lite VL3500 Wash FXs and Delta’s new L-Acoustics K2 were the new products on show.
Promoted locally by AMI Live and ATW Live in association with Live Nation Global Touring, artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball took place at Meydan Racecourse. Eclipse provided the lighting, video and primary and secondary power distribution, while audio was supplied by Delta Sound.
‘We are immensely proud to have been selected as event technology supplier for such a landmark show, the fact that so much of the production was able to be serviced locally is a real testament to the local market’s ability to compete on a global stage,’ said Martin Lubach, general manager of Eclipse Staging Services.
The main stage lighting comprised of 27 Martin Mac Vipers, 67 Clay Paky Sharpys, 11 Clay Paky Alpha Wash 1500s, 150 Chauvet LED Pars, 24 Clay Paky Sharpy Washs, four Gladiator Followspots, one Lycian Truss Spot and six DF50 Hazers as well as the 32 VL3500s, which were purchased as a result of a direct request from Lady Gaga’s production team. Eclipse also supplied the three 9mm ROE video screens located on the main stage, which consisted of two 6.6m x 3m IMAGs located on either side of the stage, and an 18.6m x 4.8m upstage screen.
Delta supplied the PA for the show, while the control system was brought by Lady Gaga’s touring production. The main PA comprised of two hangs of 12 K1 with three Kara downfills. The outfills were two hangs of eight K2, while delays comprised of two hangs of 12 V-Dosc. Ground stacked pairs of Kara along the front of the stage served as frontfills. The whole system was powered by LA8 amplifiers and controlled by a DiGiCo SD9.
All timing of the speaker arrays and equalisation of each were controlled by a pair of Meyer Sound Galileos. Any internal system correction was done via LA Network Manager. Smaart 7 in conjunction with a Lectrosonics TM400 system was added as system tools.
‘Meydan is a difficult site; it is extremely long and relatively narrow,’ explained Delta Sound project manager Al Woods. ‘There are also lots of concrete and glass windows in the grandstand, it’s important to try and keep as much direct audio off these surfaces as possible. The grandstand is only on house left, with the VIP stands on house right so it’s not symmetrical. The site also slopes from house left to house right by 3m, so keeping the PA visually correct and the angle consistent was a real challenge, but as we have done many shows here at Meydan in this configuration, we have a formula that works.’
‘This was the first time that we have used the K2 in the region and it complimented the K1 seamlessly,’ added Delta Dubai MD Andy Jackson. ‘It fully justifies our on-going commitment with the L-Acoustics brand and our purchase of both K1 and K2.’
