UAE: eclipse Staging Services was called in to provide the lighting, video and power for the recent Paulo Nutini concert in Dubai. The concert was organised by DGT Events and took place at the Media City Amphitheatre.
‘It was a straightforward setup and show,’ said eclipse project manager Tom Ralston. ‘It was a simple design with four straight trusses but a high quality result. I was very impressed with the overall look from the lighting designer from what was a very simple rig.’
The equipment supplied by eclipse included a variety of Clay Paky elements, such as B-Eye, Mythos and Super Sharpy. Added to this were Vari*Lite Vl3500 Wash FX and Martin Mac Viper moving heads. A GrandMA 2 console was used to test the rig and for the support act (the tour provided its own Chamsys desk for the show) while Avolites DMX splitters and dimmers were also called into action.
‘The results were great,’ noted Mr Ralston. ‘It’s interesting to work with international lighting designers and to see the kind of work they can do with our equipment. It gives you ideas for what you can do yourself when it comes to designing shows.’
The video side of the production was also a simple affair. There was no stage LED backdrop so the only video elements required were the two IMAG screens. Three Sony cameras and a Ross Video vision mixer alongside equipment from AJA, Barco and Cannon completed the signal chain.
‘The simple and stripped back look of the show really suited Paulo Nutini and the performance he gave,’ concluded Mr Ralston.
