eclipse trains EMDI students

UAE: eclipse Group recently partnered with Dubai’s EMDI Institute of Media and Communication to provide its students with an introduction to the technical and business side of the live events industry. A variety of subjects from health and safety to technical costing were covered over the seven days of training.
The series of lectures were designed to give the students an introduction to what each of eclipse’s disciplines do and how that technology goes into the production of a live event. The programme culminated with the students being given an event brief and then finally presenting a technical event plan to eclipse Staging Services’ general manager and the company’s heads of department during the final session.
The first five sessions were hosted at eclipse’s warehouse by various members of its staff while the final two took place in EMDI’s lecture theatre. Video, lighting and audio had their own dedicated days, while the likes of power, rigging, health and safety, lasers and special effects, technical equipment for events and costing for events shared the time table for the other days. Each session included demonstrations and practical applications of the concepts discussed.
‘We decided to get involved with EMDI for these sessions because we are committed to bringing up technical standards in the region and developing the next generation of technical event professionals,’ explained Martin Lubach, general manager of eclipse Staging Services. ‘This is just one of our educational initiatives. We have also recently launched an internship programme and are actively recruiting UK-based event/entertainment technology students to come and join us for one to six months, with an aim of developing their skills and giving them tangible work experience.’
