ERTA calls on Sony Professional for HD studios

ETHIOPIA: Sony Professional Solutions MEA (PSMEA) has been appointed by the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERTA) to install two new HD studios in Addis Ababa. The project with Sony PSMEA equips the government-owned broadcaster with HD products from the manufacturer including the studio cameras that operate on fibre optic connection (HDC-1400) and a large 6ME HD switcher (MVS-7000X). Sony PSMEA will also be establishing and equipping a new remote studio for ERTA on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
The new studios will reportedly provide ERTA with the ability for producing a wide range of programme material from news, interviews to audience participation entertainment production. These studios are aimed to be on air in 2013.
‘Sony Professional is delighted to work with ERTA to deliver such high quality equipment and studio production facilities into their broadcast centre in Addis Ababa,’ said Nigel Thompson, sales manager for Sony Professional Solutions MEA. ‘Although it is still only the beginning for HD studio production in the region, there is a considerable interest and intent to make the transition to full HD production and eventual broadcast. ERTA and Ethiopian broadcasters in general now seem to lead the way in making this transition and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency as they move ahead in upgrading their broadcast facilities.’
