Gearhouse South Africa purchases MicroTiles

SOUTH AFRICA: Gearhouse South Africa’s A/V division has invested in an initial batch of 100 Christie MicroTiles, purchased via Christie South Africa. The MicroTiles have already been used for a wide variety of projects.
Among those projects were the recent Vuka Awards, which saw the Tiles configured into a heart shape set piece for a live telecast from the Theatre on The Track at Kyalami, Midrand. Elsewhere, the 2010 Metro FM Music Awards – staged in the Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit – boasted a set partially constructed from MicroTiles as part of a full Gearhouse's technical production. Finally, the ANC Lekgotla strategy meeting in Mogale City Krugersdorp saw the Tiles deployed as PowerPoint presentation and information points.
For some of these applications, the Tiles were run via grandMA VPUs triggered from a lighting console, while other projects saw them operated via a Wings Platinum screen/display management system.
According to Gearhouse A/V’s operations manager Bhans Sheomangal, the brief was to find a product that was ‘good quality with consistent colour reproduction’. He added: ‘The picture quality, reproduction and colour balance are all excellent.’
The MicroTiles are also being used by the Gearhouse marketing department on the company’s exhibition stand for the playback of video clips, montages and stills images.
