Harris Selenio Distribution Network for Sky News Arabia
Published: MEA
UAE: Sky News Arabia has chosen the Harris Selenio media convergence platform for the distribution links among its main production base in Abu Dhabi, two additional sites in the United Arab Emirates and a contribution site in the UK. The Selenio architecture combines traditional baseband video and audio processing, compression and IP networking features.
Sky News Arabia will use Selenio to create and send IP streams of its standard and high-definition outputs to uplink, transmission and online portals. Turnaround paths will provide compliance notifications and monitoring over the same links back to the station. The same route will accommodate content exchange with the UK contribution site to provide transmission continuity.
‘There is no point having the best production in the world if it does not reach the audience, so we needed technology that was up to the task,’ said Bevan Gibson, technical launch director at Sky News Arabia. ‘The Harris Selenio system is technically advanced and built for broadcast reliability.’
‘Our Selenio platform is designed to be a very flexible solution at the points where baseband digital video and IP streaming intersect,’ commented Said Bacho, vice president sales and service, Middle East and South Asia, Harris Broadcast Communications. ‘The Sky News Arabia application is a great case in point, bridging the file-based production centre to the real-time world of the viewer.’
The Sky News Arabia production centre is one of the largest file-based infrastructures in the region. It relies on Harris Invenio software for transmission media management, ADC transmission playout automation and Broadcast Master scheduling software. All are closely integrated and control a broad range of other manufacturers’ products for an entirely automated environment.
