JBM Studio installed by Reflexion Arts

UAE: Dubai-based postproduction facility JBM Studio has opened with a setup from Spanish company, Reflexion Arts. The room has initially been configured for stereo work, but plans are at an advanced stage to turn the venue into a technological first in the region.

The studio was designed by independent consultant Philip Newell, and Reflexion Arts owner Sergio Castro travelled to Dubai to install the facility. JBM managing director and co-founder Julien Monié describes the venue as receiving ‘a huge amount of investment’, and as a result ‘the room setup and the speakers are spot on’.

The first stage of the project has seen the front wall of the studio equipped with three Reflexion Arts studio monitors and a further two subs. Subsequent phases will see the installation and tuning of a ‘top of the line’ surround system in the space.

‘It’s providing the final stage of mixing for film in the Middle East accessible here,’ explained Mr Monié. ‘For film audio post there are few companies regionally that can provide a full service to a world class standard, and JBM wants to give directors access to this important aspect of film making. JBM will assist from the location recording, sound design, ADR and foley, music supervision and re-recording mixing.

‘I’m involved with a lot of directors here in the UAE, plus a bit of content that goes to cinema in terms of adverts,’ he continued. ‘But I am seeing that directors are starting to emerge and they are going from short films to features for festivals and public release. As this is growing, I want to be there to be able to give them a facility that they would normally fly around the world for.’
