Mad Buddies uses Pro ToolsHD Native 10

SOUTH AFRICA: Leon Schuster’s latest film Mad Buddies provided the first opportunity for award-winning sound engineer Barry Donnelly of Audio One to use Avid’s Pro Tools|HD Native Version 10.

‘I first started using Pro Tools version 1.0 in about 1992 and things have come a long way. Computer memory was measured in bytes and megabytes, and if you had enough cash, a 50Mb hard drive,’ recalled Mr Donnelly. ‘I have been running a Pro Tools HD 3 system very happily for about ten years but it was time to move on, and I have just completed my first project using Pro Tools|HD Native Version 10.

‘GrayHomfmeyr’s projects are always challenging from a sound perspective with multiple takes of everything, from SFX to ADR to music. From the moment I loaded Pro Tools 10, it was a pleasure to work with, the interface was quick to get used to and I was up and running in a matter of days,’ he enthused. ‘I must say, I was nervous how the computer would handle the job without TDM but it ran smoother than my Pro Tools HD3, and that was without any extra RAM.

‘Each session had over 120 tracks at 24bit 48KHz and I was using over 20 plug-ins. I mix everything “in the box” doing all the mixing in Pro Tools in 5.1 and the new downmix function is great when for providing stereo files. I highly recommend Pro Tools|HD Native, for any job, big or small. I can’t wait to try HDX next!’ he stated.
