Majlis Oman conferencing project begins

OMAN: Work has begun on the conferencing system for the new Majlis Oman (Council of Oman) building in Muscat. The Council has selected a system based around Televic’s TCS5500 system, and the project is being handled by Muscat-based systems integrator OHI.
‘The total project of the new Majlis in Oman consists of nine conference rooms, 12 committee rooms, and two debating chambers – these are the largest rooms,’ explained Televic channel sales manager EMEAA, Herman Geerinck. ‘The whole system is based on our TCS5500, and the panels which are integrated into the furniture are the Televic all-in-one panels, the full option. The software which will be used is our iCOS software.’
In total, there will be 678 delegate systems put to use for the project, making this the largest iCOS installation ever. The system is completed with motorised touchscreens which have been fitted into the furniture.
OHI has begun work in two rooms, the largest conference room and the debating chamber for the Majlis Shura – Oman’s elected Consultation Council. ‘They need to have the Shura ready as soon as possible because Sultan Qaboos wants to officially open the Shura shortly,’ explained Mr Geerinck. ‘The other rooms will take some more time, but the Shura is the most urgent one.’
The full project is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. ‘All the cabling has been completed, it’s now just the finishing of the furniture and installation, commissioning,’ said Mr Geerinck. ‘One of our engineers is going to be there in November to start the commissioning together with OHI.’
