Metallica rock Yas Island with L-Acoustics

UAE: A massive L-Acoustics V-Dosc rig supplied the required SPL for Metallica at their recent Yas Island gig. Nearly 30,000 fans from across the region packed in to the Abu Dhabi venue for the performance.
Supplying the wealth of cabinets required for the show was Dubai-based rental company Delta Sound. ‘We had 78 V-Dosc, I think it’s more than anybody’s put together on one gig, it was a big number!’ said Delta Sound’s Andy Jackson. ‘We’ve got 60 now so we had some additional as well.’
Added to the V-Doscs were 48 L-Acoustic SB218 subs for low end and 18 dV-Doscs for frontfill. The band supplied their own monitors and control as well as legendary engineer Big Mick Hughes to mix the show. ‘For me, it really was nice to hear a rock band that was mixed really well,’ noted Mr Jackson. ‘I know it’s really simple, it’s guitars, bass and drums, but I have to say Big Mick does do a fantastic job. He does a great job mixing them, it’s not over complicated, it just sounds really good.’
Mr Jackson was equally happy with the way the V-Dosc system performed on the night. ‘It all went really well from our side, I couldn’t be more pleased with the way it sounded.’
For the other technical elements of the show, Creative Technology supplied the cameras, IMAG and rear LED screens, while the lighting came from Protec.
Following the Yas Island event, Delta Sound took down the rig overnight and moved 48 cabinets to the Sheikh Zayed Stadium where rehearsals for Abu Dhabi's UAE National Day Celebrations in December are underway.
