SOUTH AFRICA: Midrand-based production company Mastermax Productions (MMX) has purchased a Soundcraft Vi6 console for its broadcast trailer. The new console was used for a recent gospel event at the FNB Stadium named a Night of Bliss, organised by the Christ Embassy Church group.
After responding to requests from clients asking the company to extend its services from location recording to audio mixing for live broadcasts as well as providing multi track recording, MMX considered many consoles before deciding on a 96 frame Soundcraft Vi6 for its broadcast trailer.
Describing the new purchase as a ‘rock solid solution’ for live broadcast music mixing and multi track recording, MMX’s Vi6 console was used for both FOH and TV broadcasting at the religious meeting at the FNB Stadium, which featured a 15-piece band and a 5,000-piece choir. Broadcasting to more than 40 countries, MMX utilised a total of 96 audio channels and used Madi outs directly from the stage boxes to facilitate the multi track recording of all the channels to a main and backup recorder.
Distributed by Wild & Marr, MMX described the purchase as ‘the heart of the new location recording and broadcast trailer.’ The production company reports that ‘the Vi6 was chosen due to the affiliation with Studer, and due to the reliability and sonic quality it offered.’
Continuing, the Midrand-based company remarked that it found the Vi6 appealing due to its ‘very user friendly control surface’. The production company stated that it found the console flexible enough to be set up in a way where it could multi-track record 128 audio channels and mix 96 channels for stereo or surround broadcast, utilising two stage boxes.
MMX’s broadcast trailer also includes a Sadie H128 live recorder capable of multi track recording 128 audio channels. The trailer also features an eight-channel HD vision mixer and six HD cameras for concert and corporate recordings and small sized broadcasts, with satellite uplink over IPTV.
