Nuts amp Bolts opts for Genelec

OMAN: Oman’s first automotive-themed pub, Nuts & Bolts, opened on September 17 with a sound system from Genelec. The new lounge bar is situated in the Al Falaj Hotel in the heart of Muscat and offers a range of auto-themed food and cocktails.
The sound system was installed by HiTec which handled the design for the bar. It consists of eight 1038CF powered three-way active speakers supplemented by two 7073A active subs. ‘It’s a very high-end lounge bar,’ said HiTec’s Stanley Fernandes. ‘When they approached us to design Nuts & Bolts, they told us it would be something unique. They hadn’t heard Genelec before, so the owner wanted to see them working. We took him to a couple of lounge bars in India with extensive Genelec systems and he accepted the install of Genelec in Nuts & Bolts.’
The acoustic environment at Nuts & Bolts provided a number of challenges for the design. ‘In order to save space we built a bass trap in the ceiling,’ explained Mr Fernandes. ‘Even at the loudest levels you can still communicate.’
This is the first time that HiTec has used Genelec speakers in a lounge bar setting – previous projects included studios and home theatres. But according to Mr Fernandes, the company will certainly do so again.
