Prisme International chooses L-Acoustics and Avid for Emirates Palace AV show

UAE: Event management and production company Prisme International was hired to organise a 3D mapping A/V show on the outside of Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace. L-Acoustics and Avid were chosen to provide the sound reinforcement for what Prisme International called ‘an exciting technical and production challenge’, due to this being the palace’s first 3D mapping show.
The A/V show was in aid of a gala dinner named Education Without Borders 2011, which featured projected images on the palace measuring 160m by 20m. An audience of 2,000 watched as the Emirates Palace appeared to tumble down then fill up with water and become an aquarium. Over 50 performers featured on the Silk Road Around the World stage to represent the shows theme of cultural diversity.
Completing the project in two weeks, the show’s audio design was by Prisme’s Jean Marc Chandoo, assisted by Delta Sound. The video and lighting were synchronised on a specially composed 5.1 music track with an Avid Time-Coding Protools HD system with a D Show digital audio desk. Sound reinforcement from L-Acoustics included six Kudos as centre fills, 12 dV-Dosc cabinets providing left and right sound, and 12 Kivas supplying left, right and rear surround sound. Eight medium format Arcs were also selected, alongside eight SB218 subwoofers.
The video mapping system was designed by Prisme’s Gilles Ledos and Anthony Moneta, and comprised of 20 video projectors from Christie, an Encore video mixing system, and four Sony HD 1500 cameras. Meanwhile, the lighting setup, designed by Prisme’s Tony Anzalone and Xavier Brandy, comprised ten Falcon 7K Skytracers, 20 Clay Paky Spot HPE 1200 projectors, 40 Martin MAC 600 wash lights, and two Grand MA lighting desks.
The show ended with a spectacular firework display. HH Sheikh AL Nayan Al Nahyan Bin Mubarak, minister of Education, headed the Education Without Borders gala dinner.
