SOUTH AFRICA: Prosound provided the sound, staging, A/V and lighting for the recent Rewind Festival in Durban. The concert saw a series of 80s acts take to the stage performing to more than 20,000 people at Kings Park stadium.

The main PA for the festival was from Meyer Sound with Milo cabinets as the primary flown hangs made up of 10 90-degrees and two 120-degrees per side. Added to this were side stack’s of four 90-degrees firing up to the immediate grand stands. For sub’s 16 700HPs were stacked in blocks of two along the downstage edge, with the Meyer prediction software MAPP online used too work out the distances between stack’s.

‘The results where again smooth coverage,’ said Prosound's rental manager Donovan Calvert. ‘Although we had flown 120-degree boxes in the main hang this only really picked up a couple metres after the barrier, we utilised eight Meyer UPQ for front fills to pick-up the first couple rows as well as giving that part of the crowd a better sound image. For delays we used eight Mica per side and they performed as always fantastically. System Control was handled by two Meyer Galileo 616s.’

For FOH control Prosounnd turned to the Midas Pro9. ‘We complimented FOH racks with a selection of T.C effects units from the M-ONE to the D2 and the bit more comprehensive M3OOO reverb,’ noted Mr Calvert. ‘For additional tie lines and I/O capabilities we utilised a Midas DL251.’ For monitors, a Midas Pro2 with the Midas DL351 and DL251 modular I/O units connected via Cat-5 was put to use.

Stage monitoring came via a selection of in-ears for the artists and wedges for the 'House Band' as well as for the down stage edge. ‘We are using the Electro-Voice PX1122M and PX1152M wedges powered off Electro Voice CPS 3000 power amplifiers and a selection of Sennheiser and Shure in-ear systems, the actual in-ear’s transducers where all custom jobs,’ recalled Mr Calvert. Stage microphones came from Sennheiser, Electro-Voice, Shure and DPA. D.I boxes where from Klark Teknik, Radial and Summit.
