Prosound hosts South African EKX launch

SOUTH AFRICA: Johannesburg-based distributor, Prosound, put its Prosound Studios site to good use for the South African launch of Electro-Voice’s EKX series of loudspeakers.
The product launch and demonstration attracted a number of local Electro-Voice dealers and end-users. Electro-Voice’s regional marketing manager for portable speakers, mics and mixers EMEA, Markus Schmittinger, made the trip from Germany to talk participants through a variety of the manufacturer’s systems before focusing on the new EKX series.
‘I thoroughly enjoyed it,’ said Mr Schmittinger. ‘For me, the experience of bringing this core content to people here in South Africa and making them aware of what EKX can do was worth the effort it took to undertake this trip.’
While specs and performance formed a portion of the presentation, the key to its success was providing people with the opportunity to hear what the system was capable of. ‘You can try to rationalise things like the watts and SPL but it’s a different thing when you experience it,’ noted Mr Schmittinger. ‘If you play people a piece of music and see smiling faces, this does much more than any brochure or any PowerPoint.’
One of the highlights of the event was a demonstration of how to set the subs up in a cardioid formation with participants then invited to circle the subs to experience the difference the technique can make. ‘The more professional we become in our industry, the more we tend to skip the hands-on demonstrations because we know these things already,’ reflected Mr Schmittinger. ‘But when you actually do hands-on demonstrations like we did with the cardioid arrangement, then you find where the fun is and where the joy is. We are selling for the benefit of our customer.’
‘Prosound is pleased to add the EKX Series to our product offering as a premium mobile speaker system,’ added Prosound director Justin Acres. ‘The evening after the demo saw the speakers being used in a showcase of new South African talent at Prosound Studios, and from pianists to DJs, their skills were well highlighted by the performance of the EKX as monitors and PA.’
