Prosound installs Kenya’s National Theatre

KENYA: Kenya’s National Theatre in Nairobi has undergone a significant refurbishment in a community project funded by East Africa Breweries. The project saw South African distributor and systems integrator, Prosound, team up with local partner company, AUA, to deliver new sound and lighting systems.
The project started with a site visit from Prosound director Mark Malherbe at the end of 2014 to see what technical facilities would be required. One of the major challenges for the theatre came from the location of its control booth. This was originally situated above the balcony in a closed room. Fortunately, the client followed a recommendation from Prosound to create a sizeable control booth by using some foyer space and repositioning the doors into the auditorium.
Prior to the installation Prosound drew up detailed cable schedules and panel layouts. These were then used by AUA to pull the cables and minimize the time Prosound staff were required on site.
For the audio solution, a Meyer Sound PA system was installed, together with onstage Maestro monitors and various Audio-Technica microphones for instrument and lectern usage. The Maestro-powered loudspeakers were manufactured by Prosound, as well as the cabling systems for lighting and sound, a custom-built stage manager’s desk and ring intercom systems. Prosound LED parcans and ETC Source Four fixtures were chosen for the stage lighting and an Element Control console was chosen as a lighting control option.
Following the refurbishment, both the client and the operator are reportedly impressed with the quality of equipment supplied and the standard of the installation.
