Prosound supplies Midas Pro1 for Beauty and The Beast

SOUTH AFRICA: Prosound recently supplied a Midas Pro1 digital console to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in Durban for its current production of Beauty and the Beast. This is the first time a digital console has been used in the theatre, as management decided that an analogue desk was not suitable for the production’s requirements.
Ryan Selby of Prosound was quick to offer the Midas Pro1 and a Midas DL251 stage box as a solution. Megan Levy of DarkHorse Productions is the sound designer for the show, and prior to this had never had the opportunity to work with a Pro1 before. Ms Levy only had three days to familiarise herself with the console before the production started, but insisted that after a 20 minute ‘crash course’, she could programme the show. ‘It was very quick and I haven’t looked back,’ she enthused. ‘Now we are nearing the end of our run, I can say that it really is a pleasure to use.’
Continuing, Ms Levy said: ‘I certainly have not been disappointed. The desk responds exceptionally fast which is critical, especially in the opening number. I have also been impressed by the audio quality in general and the automation has greatly simplified the operation of an otherwise complex show. Coming from an “old-school” analogue background, the Pro1 has proved to be the most “theatre friendly” console I have used so far,’ she asserted.
‘I would definitely use a Pro1 again,’ she insisted. ‘Actually, I’m hoping to get my hands on a Pro9 soon. Also, the Prosound staff have been fantastic and very supportive throughout.’
